Celebration of the 20th Data Protection Day in Brussels

The International Data Protection Day is celebrated every year on 28 January, the anniversary of the opening for signature of Convention 108 of the Council of Europe - the oldest legal act of international scope that regulates issues related to the protection of personal data.

In connection with this event, Konrad Komornicki, Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office, and Maria Owczarek, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Personal Data Protection Office, took part in the 20th edition of the Data Protection Day, which took place on 27 January 2026 at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU in Brussels.

The event brought together representatives of EU and national institutions around a discussion on the challenges of personal data protection in the context of the development of digital services, cybersecurity and trust in the digital environment.

During the meeting, a debate "One entry to rule them all" took place and focused on the challenges related to the implementation of the Single Point of Notification and Incident Handling (‘single-entry point’), attended by Konrad Komornicki, Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office. During his speech, the Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office pointed out that in the situation of both a cyber incident and a personal data breach incident, after the entry into force of the amended Act on the National Cybersecurity System, it will be possible to report them to the relevant CSIRT and the President of the Personal Data Protection Office in one system. According to the Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office, the implementation of such a system will ensure better and safer exchange of information and will allow for effective coordination of activities between entities responsible for the digital security of the state.
